1. (C) OPERATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS:

    A. GENERAL:
   (1) The 3rd Brigade (Separate) (Airmobile) continued operations in BINH TUY,
LONG KHANH, LAM DONG, Southern PHUOC LONG and Northeastern BIEN HOA Provinces directed toward the destruction of elements of the 33rd NVA REGT, main forces and rear service units and HQ, MR-7, RS MR-7, 81 RSG, and the interdiction of enemy lines of communication and location and evacuation of enemy caches. The Brigade continued support of Vietnamization by conducting coordinated operations with RVN Forces operating within the Brigade AO.

   (3)  Changes in organization during the reporting period: None.

   (4)  OPERATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS:
      (a)  At 1320H YS 647917, RGR TM 75 while moving towards a pick-up zone spotted and engaged with small arms 1x individual 15 meters to there W. The enemy returned fire (AK-47), resulting in 1x US WIA (right thigh). The individual was evacuated to 24th EVAC at LONG BINH. At 1450H TM 75 was extracted.

      B. GROUND UNIT ACTIVITIES:
   (1)  2-5 CAV CP remained at FSB MACE. Elements of HQ's Company continued base defense operations at FSB MACE. Co. B(-) continued base defense operations at VO DAT. 3D continued base defense operations at LZ ROCK. 2B & 1C continued base defense operations at the Radio Relay site on NUI CHUA CHAN. Co's A & D(-) & the Recon Platoon conducted ground reconnaissance and ambush operations 6 kilometers NW of VO DAT (vic bunker complex). Co C(-) conducted ground reconnaissance and ambush operations 7 kilometers W of VO DAT.

   (2)  1-7 CAV CP remained at FSB MACE. Co B(-) continued base defense operations
at FSB MACE. 2B continued base defense operations FSB HALL. Co's A & C conducted
ground reconnaissance and ambush operations 8 kilometers E of CAM MY. At 1100H the Recon Platoon walked off FSB HALL 1 kilometer to the W and established a night defensie position. At 0800H Co D conducted a combat assault from FSB MACE to YS 567939 for ground reconnaissance and ambush operations.

   (3)  2-8 CAV CP remained at FSB JEFFRIES. Co. B(-) & Recon Platoon continued base defense operations at FSB JEFFRIES. 1B continued base defense operations at FSB TIGER. Co. A conducted ground reconnaissance and ambush operations 4 kilometers N of FSB HALL. Co C conducted ground reconnaissance and ambush operations 9 kilometers NW of FSB JEFFRIES. At 1105H Co D conducted a combat assault from YT 611041 to YT 816071 ground reconnaissance and ambush operations.

   (4)  1-12 CAV CP remained at FSB GIBRALTAR. Elements of HQ's Company continued base defense operations at FSB GIBRALTAR. 3C continued base defense operation at FSB KATIE. Co's A&D conducted ground reconnaissance and ambush operations 8 kilometers SW of FSB KATIE. At 1630H Co C(-) conducted a final extraction from YT 078412 to FSB GIBRALTAR, and upon arrival assumed base defense operations. Co B & the Recon Platoon continued standdown at VUNG TAU.

   (5)  The Bde Security Platoon remained at BIEN HOA Army Base.    (Bde RRF)

   (6)  Pd losses GROUND UNIT ACTIVITIES: Enemy (by US): 15x 9mm rnds, 6x 7.62mm rnds; US: none.

   C.  RECONAISSANCE UNIT ACTIVITIES:
   (1)  Co. D, 229 AHB (COMP) continued aerial reconnaissance operations in support
of the Brigade.
   (2)  Trp F, 9 Cav continued aerial reconnaissance operations in support of the
Brigade.
   (3)  Bde Ranger Platoon continued ground reconnaissance and ambush operations in
support of the Brigade.
   (4)  Pd losses RECONAISSANCE UNIT ACTIVITIES: none; US: 1x WIA.

   D.  1-21 Arty (+) (105) continued support of Brigade operations.
   (1).  Pd losses 1-21 Arty (+) : Enemy (by US): none; US: none.

   E.  229 AHB (COMP) continued aerial support of Brigade operations.
   (1).  Pd losses AHB (COMP): Enemy (by US): none; US: none.

   F.  CUMULATIVE RESULTS OF THE OPERATIONS SINCE 10 APRIL 1971: Enemy
(by US): 468 KIA, 14 PW, 583 IWC, 15 CSWC, 52,533 SCRC, 437 LCRC; US: 34 kia, 136 WIA, 1 UH1H dest, 4 OH-6A dest, and 2 AH-1G dest.
